- Which cards do our ATMs accept?
The following cards are presently accepted:
- Visa
- MasterCard
- Interac
- Maestro
- Cirrus
- American Express (Canadian)
- Circuit
- What transactions can the surcharge be levied against?
A surcharge can be levied against all Interac network
transactions. Surcharging cannot be applied to certain international
MasterCard, Visa and Cirrus cards and any other non-Interac network
cards. Visa cards with
Interac on the back will receive a surcharge.
- Do I need a separate phone line for the ATM?
Yes, a dedicated dial-up phone line is required.
- Will I need to pay for long distance calls each time
the ATM is used?
No, it dials a 1-800 number.
- How much power is required to operate the ATM?
You need a standard 110 Volt outlet for the ATM which
draws about four amps.
- How secure is the ATM?
The ATM is bolted to the floor with four-inch concrete
bolts, which can withstand a total of 12,000 psi of pressure.
- Can the ATM be alarmed?
Yes,
it can be ordered from the factory with a generic alarm system. The
ATM can also be alarmed independently.
- Do you recommend the electronic lock option?
Yes. The electronic lock is easy to operate and it offers
a higher level of security over the mechanical lock. The electronic
lock is battery operated and features a six-digit push button keyboard.
The combination can be changed easily, directly from the keyboard.
The battery typically lasts for approximately one year.
- Can the ATM hold both U.S. and Canadian currency?
Yes, some models can hold both Canadian and U.S. currency.
- How does the ATM work?
When the card is inserted, the ATM dials an 800 number
to the Candian Automated Bank Machines Inc. (CABM Inc.) Network Processor,
which adds the surcharge amount and then sends the transaction request
to Interac
or other network connection for authorization from the cardholders
financial institution. Once authorized, a signal is sent back to the
ATM to dispense the cash requested.
- When are transaction & vault withdrawals usually
settled?
The Processor typically settles the transaction surcharge
and withdrawn amount of cash within two business days depending on
the time and day of the transaction.
- Are armoured car services required?
Candian Automated Bank Machines Inc. operates its own
Armoured Car Service to stock the ATM with cash and do routine maintenance,
e.g. add receipt paper, etc.
- What about insurance?
Candian Automated Bank Machines Inc. places insurance
on the ATM and the cash contents. This would include loss and liability
and usually involves adding a rider to the Merchants existing
policy.
- Under what rules do ATMs operate?
All ATMs operate under Interac and C.P.A. (Canadian
Payments Association) guidelines.
- Are there any costs for standard software upgrades?
Yes. These upgrades, if required, will be provided by
CABM Inc.
- Are there any costs for hardware upgrades?
No. Candian Automated Bank Machines Inc. updates all
ATMs when received from the manufacturer.
- Do ATMs carry a warranty?
ATMs typically carry a 12 or 13 month warranty.
- How does the maintenance program work?
Candian Automated Bank Machines Inc. covers all required
maintenance.
- Who services the ATM if a maintenance contract is not
entered into?
Canadian Automated Bank Machines Inc. has a number of
factory-trained technicians. Our own service personnel provide service
via telephone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The
Company provides field service through its own service department.
Additionally, CABM Inc. has arrangements with qualified and specialized
service organizations throughout Canada.
- When will other dispensing services be available for
my ATM?
Other dispensing services such as: phone calling cards,
tickets, coupons and advertising will be available to add on to your
ATM.
